Cook

Hour House is seeking a dedicated and motivated Cook to help prepare nutritious meals for adults participating in substance use disorder treatment. Come join our awesome Dietary Team! This position involves cooking/preparing meals for adults participating in treatment for a substance use disorder.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook a variety of dishes following recipes and guidelines.
  • Ensure food quality and presentation meet standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen area.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of food supplies.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Assist with menu planning and special event catering as needed.


Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and understand menus, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, public health regulations, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and speak effectively to clients when necessary.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out written or oral instruction. Ability to problem solve when needed.
  • The employee must have a valid Illinois Driver's License and maintain a good driving records. The employee must possess an Illinois Food Service Sanitation Certificate or be able to obtain it upon hire.


Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

  • The employee is regularly required to stand, reach with hands and arms, taste, and smell; frequently is required to walk; use hands to find, handle, or feel objects; climb; balance; stoop; kneel; and crouch; regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pound, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and rarely lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Other abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, hearing, and speech.
  • The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • COVID-19 considerations: Gloves and masks or face shields are provided to staff.
