Youth Mentor

Hour House has an open Youth Mentor position. The Youth Mentor Prevention/ Intervention Specialist will work as part of a team of individuals providing services in both Douglas and Coles counties. Their duties will include working as a team member in the delivery of evidence-based curriculum to Jr High and High School age at risk youth in Coles and Douglas counties. They will also provide a series of 3 evidence based intervention sessions to youth who have begun substance use.


Responsibilities and Duties

Teaching, rapport building, communication with affiliated support personnel in schools and social service agencies, coalition building, community contacts, and planning.


Qualifications and Skills

Staff members must be in personal recovery for a Substance Use Disorder and stabilized for a minimum of 2 years. Please do not apply if you do not meet this criteria as it is required. Those hired must have a willingness to share their personal history of substance use disorder and recovery. The position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a team member and ability to provide classroom instruction, always exhibit a professional demeanor, hold a valid driver’s license, and exhibit great people skills.


Candidates must be able to pass all background checks and have a valid driver’s license. After one year of service mentors must obtain certification as a Certified Recovery Support Specialist.


Job Type: Full-time


Pay: From $21.50 per hour


Expected hours: 40 per week

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply


Experience:

  • Substance Use DIsorder Recovery: 2 years (Required)
